SW Snowboards

Poster Design

Our final project for Typography II was to design and advertise three custom snowboards. I set out to harmoniously joining type and imagery in such a way that the text could stand on its own and still be attractive even if the images and backgrounds were removed.

The first design spoofs both the logo of MTV's "Viva La Bam" and the popular Che Guevara T-shirts, manipulating letters from the Gastada font to give Weird Al an uncharacteristically dark and graffiti-esque image. (Al's demanding stare was taken from the back cover of his "Straight Outta Lynwood" album.)

The other two put across humorous messages through contrasting fonts, rather than resorting to an obvious image - the second using type to illustrate a nasty fall down a hill, and the third playing upon a snowboarder's point of view of an athletically-impaired outsider. Touches of white were added using a soft-edged Photoshop brush to give the appearance of frost.
